Money Lapbook

We have completed our short study on money. We put together a very simple Lapbook designed mostly by Carisa over at http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.blogspot.com/ as well as some print outs from http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html
This lapbook was very easy to do and a lot of fun too. Here are some pictures of the finished lapbook.

In The Works

Our house has been buzzing with activity lately. We have so much going on. So far everything is going well. The kids are doing great and keeping me busy. Here are some of what we are working on.

• We are 2 verses into our Psalm 23 study. We've talked about the relationship between the shepherd and his sheep. We've discuss how a shepherd cares and provides for his sheep. How he knows everyone of his sheep by name and how his sheep know his voice. we have also begun to talk about Jesus being our "good" shepherd. Everything is moving so well with this study. God is so good and once again our family is just being so blessed by His word.
• We are continuing with our character study and this month the character trait is "Faith". We are in the beginning stages of putting together our lapbook.
• Little Mama has begun to do some work on her addition facts lapbook. So far we have learned the +0, and +1 facts.
• We have been starting seeds and making plans for our fall garden. The kids are really excited and so am I. This weekend the guys will be building a new raised bed as well as filling it with soil. We've got big plans for the garden this fall.

Other than that we have my birthday coming up in a couple of weeks and Papa has been working some pretty long hours lately. Like I said we are very busy around here.

Fire Safety

Our co-op just completed a month long study on Fire Safety. We used the lapbook provided by http://www.homeschoolhelperonline.com/
We also used http://www.do2learn.com/games/songs/firesafetysong/index.htm as one of the resources for our lapbook.

Frogs

FROGS


This past November we did a study on frogs and turned it into a lapbook. We had a lot of fun learning about frogs.


We went into the bible looking for frogs and boy did we find them in the book of exodus. That blew the kids minds that the bible talked about frogs.


We took a field trip to see more examples of frogs and that was a lot of fun.


We not only learned more about frogs than I could have ever gotten out of a book but the store employees were even nice enough to tell us about some other amphibians.


We played with a lizard and entertained a giant python. We will definitely go back and visit them sometime in the future.


We have covered the frog life cycle and anatomy. We read about their classification, AMPHIBIANS which means double life.


We also learned about how God provides for the frogs (their diet) and how God helps them to protect themselves (defenses) from predators.
The highlight of this study was when Daddy found a frog in our backyard and caught it for us to take pictures of and get a closer look at.


We are really loving the freedom that homeschooling gives us to study whatever the children are interested in and to do it in a way that is best for all of us.

Butterflies

BUTTERFLY UNIT STUDY
This past October we did a study about Butterflies and you've guested we also turned that study into a lapbook. (we really love to do lapbooks). Some of the topics covered under this study were:

-The life cycle of butterflies
-Is a butterfly an insect ?
-Butterfly body parts (anatomy)
-Butterfly habitats
-The difference between a Moth and a Butterfly
-Predators of butterflies
-How God helps butterflies protect themselves


And we also learned that Florida's state insect is a zebra butterfly.
We looked at preserved butterflies up close using a magnifying glass as well as a whole bunch of other fun things. We had a lot of fun and worked very hard.

Healthy Teeth Lapbook

Hurray, we are done with our Healthy Teeth lapbook.

We laughed, we played but most importantly we learned.

Our bible verse for this unit was 1Corinthians 10:31 "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

We learned the proper way to brush and floss, and how to know when we need a new toothbrush.

Weather

WEATHER UNIT STUDY
Last September we did s study on Weather. We created a lapbook to go with did study. In the study we covered a lot of topics such as...

...what weather is how it changes and how it's predicted.
...What is weather?
...How does weather change?
...What is wind?
...What are clouds?
...Where does rain come from?
...How are storms made?
-We constructed our very own "weather instruments" and used them to write a weather report. -We learned about the wind and used a "wind vane" to find out which direction the wind was moving.
-We also used an "anemometer" to measure the strength of the wind.
-We learned about the sun and how it warms the earth.
-We studied temperature change and made a model of a thermometer.
-We read a story in the Bible about a storm and how Jesus was able to calm the storm by commanding it to stop.
-We learned about clouds and what they are made off.

-We also learned about different types of clouds and how they can help us predict what the weather will me like.
-We learned about the rain and we used a "rain gauge" to measure rain fall. We also learned about storms and we made a tornado in a bottle.
-We did so many things that I can probably spend all night listing them all. It was a lot of fun.

All About Me

Last year in August we made our first lapbook. We called it All About Me. We created our lapbook as part of a unit study that we were doing about the human body.


Under this study we are learned...

• that God made each of us special.
  


• our 5 senses



• our body parts (eyes, nose, etc.)



• and our organs. (heart, lung, etc.)
  

we also covered "personal info" such as address, phone number, age, how tall we are and how much we weigh.

We did a lot of readying and some hands on things too. Every one's favorite was when Daddy played the patient and the kids became the little doctors that checked his heart, listened to his lungs and basically checked him out. We had a lot of fun doing that study and we wanted to share some pictures with you so here it goes.

The Ten Commandments

Last November our Co-op/ Support Group got together for a 10 week study on The Ten Commandments. All the kids in our Group are 6 and under so you can imagine the fun we all had. The moms shared the responsibility of presenting each commandment to the group as well as an activity to help them remember that commandment. The kids loved it and they are still talking about the 10 Commandments. Enjoy the video of the last day of our study. The youngest member is only 2.
